Gumby

This is my newest friend, Gumby the cat. He is about 4 years old and is an indoor/outdoor kitty with his own cat door so that he can come and go as he pleases. He's very handsome and really well mannered. (I must make a note here that I feel like I'm writing a personal ad for Gumby...likes long walks along the fence and tormenting birds...) This morning we slept in a bit and worked from the house for a couple of hours. Gumby was out on the patio getting dive-bombed by birds for apparently being in "their" space. It was really funny to watch.

I think having been alone in my apartment in Singapore last week and then coming to a house with a cat this week makes me realize how much companionship pets really bring. Lindsey and I have found ourselves just watching Gumby wander about or take a bath. Just the knowledge of the animal being around makes the home feel less empty...at least to me.

A question everyone keeps asking me is if I'm going to get kitties in Singapore. I would love to but there are a couple of reasons stopping me. First, I'm only going to be in Singapore for two years so I'd be completely attached to them and would have to give them up. I just don't think that is fair. Secondly, I am traveling like a crazy woman these days. My longest consecutive stay in Singapore thus far has been a whopping three weeks. Again, it just wouldn't be fair to the kitty.

So for now, I'll have to enjoy the companionship of Gumby and then my own kitties, Fez and Fresnel, when I head home next week.
