Week 28 of 52
Hoi An, Vietnam

I always love first impressions of a city or place that I travel. My first impression is seldom wrong although my mind has been changed a few times over the years. When we landed in Danang from Ho Chi Minh City my first reaction was to just take a deep breath. There were actual houses ( not high rises) and green and fields and trees. You don't realize how much you miss these things when they are all around you all of the time. But living in Singapore I certainly do miss them. So, my first impression of Hoi An was a good one.

Hoi An is one of those cities that is both busy and quiet at the same time. You can find a quiet corner for lunch or good coffee or you can try and walk along the market and get touted by all the local merchants. The food itself is amazing. Both the local Vietnamese fare and the nicer restaurants were super yummy.

We stayed outside of the Old Town area...

We were right on the South China Sea...

We had to catch a shuttle or taxi into town but it was actually kind of nice to get away from the noise and business of the town. It would have been beautiful to sit by the ocean or pool at our hotel but it was rainy and windy most of the days so we just relaxed and caught up on some sleep.

A few pictures from around Hoi An...

This is one of the places that I will add to people's 'must see' lists when in Asia. It is just a lovely little place.
